The Circle of Life

This has been a very fun spring. We've spent a lot of time in nature and have appreciated the "wonders of it all". The circle of life is alive and well in at least 3 special ways at the Larsen home.

1. Raising Caterpillars: A few weeks ago, the kids brought home a number of caterpillars that they found on the oak trees outside of the church. We posted pictures and video of the caterpillars crawling on Logan and the habitat we created for them in anticipation of their transformation to beautiful butterflies. The kids have been good with ensuring the habitat had fresh leaves and water. Their persistence paid off as the caterpillars made their chrysalis' a few days ago. We're anxious to see them emerge in about 8-10 days.

2. Container garden: A few weeks ago we chronicled the start of our container garden in our back yard. The kids have been very diligent in watering the containers daily and watching the plants sprout. The weather has been perfect for the plants...plenty of sun & humidity...the kids have taken care of watering and as you can see, the plants have sprouted and are thriving. Pictured is pumpkin, corn, 3 types of tomatoes, spaghetti squash, yellow squash, and watermelon.

3. Frogs, frogs everywhere. The kids go frog hunting, almost daily, in a swampy area about 200 yards from the house. Wyatt loves holding the frogs and he has become extremely gentle with them. Here you can see pictured the beginnings of a frog...the tadpole on my finger and the latest catch grown-up frog that Wyatt is holding. It's amazing that these tiny tadpoles transform into these big frogs.

We're all enjoying the circle of life and we can't wait to see the further transformation of our 3 fun things. We'll keep the blog updated regularly.

Hey Curtis,
YOUR CATERPILLARS MADE THEIR LITTLE THING THAT I DON'T KNOW HOW TO SPELL??? That's really exciting!!! I wonder what kind of butterfly or moth they'll turn into. YAY! The circle of life isn't so exciting over here. We've got a good garden this year I think. Just not our peas. They are full grown with no peas yet. Sad sad sad. Oh well. Peas are our favorite thing to eat from the garden. :( I wish we had those pot things. I bet it's a lot less weeding. Lucky duckies!
